We sponsor workshops, classes and special events on issues of interest to soon-to-be expectant mothers, expectant mothers, mothers, birth care service providers and the local birthing community.

Who Should Attend?  
Class will be of special interest to expectant moms and dads, doulas, midwife birth assistants, massage therapists, other birth care service professionals.

What Will Be Covered?
The Mexican rebozo is a traditional shawl and midwives' tool with many functions. Class covers the practical knowledge of the Mexican rebozo and techniques for its many uses.

Topics include:

  • Relaxation
  • Ways to help relieve common discomforts during pregnancy and labor
  • Labor assistance
  • Baby positioning
  • Baby carrying

Description:
This interactive and high-energy class will provide techniques for relaxation, positioning of the baby, relieving discomforts, labor support, and even baby carrying with a rebozo. As a plus, the participants will be able to take these personalized techniques for relaxation and strengthening the body for labor and use them at home.

Amy Bookwalter will have a limited number of 12 foot rebozos for sale.

Sonija T. Parson is the senior doula and midwife assistant with Birthing Hands with extensive experience providing birthing services in the United States and internationally. She recently returned to Washington, DC from Cuernavaca, Morelos Mexico where she serves as a traditional midwife. She has taught the art of the rebozo at several Midwifery Today conferences.
